As a fan of visual novels, I hope people are beginning to see that they can be called video games, and that they're not always about creepily seducing half-naked cat-eared women. In fact, just diligently avoiding all distractions and going straight for your target of "trying to uncover what's going on" actually gives you a specific new route, generally called the "Semyon Route", and it ends up giving you a whole load of information on what is actually going on. And that's an interesting twist, in my opinion; a game of this type that rewards not going for the girls.

As a quick note, I played the game as it was available upon Steam, which means that the adult content was not available in my copy of the game (it is easy to restore the adult content, as a quick search online will be able to point you in the right direction very quickly, but I opted not to do that while playing the game for this review).

Thank you for bringing it to iOS, I played the pc version and that was too good for words. Meeting Semyon, the game's main character, you would've never paid attention to him. One of the things that people will have noticed is that I tend to criticize free games for being too short.

Game development started in May 2008 based off an image posted to the Russian IIchan imageboard. The reason for this is that the game is bigger than its routes and Semyon gets to find something he likes not in spite of, but because of the camp. Similarly, Sasha, the girl who plays the role of Slavya in the Miku route.

As stated above, the anime style of the game may be a turn off for some, but I couldn't see the game working any other way after playing it. There are some instances where the characters look completely different from another scene, but over a span of 5 years in the making, inconsistencies were bound to spring up. Aside from this minor detail, the backgrounds for the game, the characters during the story scenes were all top notch.

This only comes to reinforce the notion that Soviet Games did not have a clear and precise idea of what they wanted to do with the game - yet, interestingly, they managed to develop a fairly consistent world, not necessarily in information acquired by the player but in feeling and atmosphere.

While the music and art is fantastic, I feel like the characters were not as fleshed out as they should have been. According to Steam Spy , the most popular SakuraGame titles sell in the hundreds of thousands, with the highest title, Tricolour Lovestory , having more than 200,000 owners.

So. Overall, you know, I had a really good time with Everlasting Summer. The standout parts of the game are MST3k the adventures on foot, which are designed as text quests, the forerunner genre of visual novels. I played the game in both English and Russian, but you definitely don't have to play in both languages in order to get the full story or anything like that.

Summary : Everlasting Summer is a visual novel from russian developers that offers very sincere and bright emotions about the days past and hopes yet to come true.
